Since 1 October 2024, pharmacists have been able to supply low-nicotine concentration vapes without a prescription (known as Schedule 3 or S3) if they believe doing so may benefit your health.

When do I need a prescription?

There may still be circumstances where a prescription is more suitable for your ongoing needs, or is even required:

1. If you reside in Western Australia or Tasmania
   These states do not allow the supply of any vaping products without a prescription.
2. If you require higher-nicotine concentration vapes
   Your pharmacist (or you) may believe that your specific chances of quitting may improve with higher-nicotine concentration vapes that are only available under prescription.
3. Ongoing supply beyond 12 weeks
   Without a prescription, pharmacists can only supply you with S3 vapes for up to 12 weeks. Beyond this, you’ll need to get a prescription.
